Everything Fits: Modern and Multifunctional
No belt winders or visible control switches should disrupt the overall aesthetic of the dream (kitchen) space.

A total of 45 square meters of a detached house built in 2001 received a completely new and appealing look while simultaneously integrating state-of-the-art technology. The homeowners from Altena in the Sauerland region created their dream kitchen, which was designed to be the open heart of the house. Whether for the two of them or with friends, life happens in the kitchen: cooking together, sharing moments, and enjoying the adjacent dining/living space. Comfort and high functionality were the focus not only during the planning and furnishing of the stylish designer kitchen. "During the comprehensive modernization of the entire area, we seized the opportunity to motorize the roller shutters," explains Andrea Sellmann. Quality is a recurring theme in the kitchen cabinets, appliances, and furniture in the dining and living rooms, as well as in the wall coverings. "We chose high-quality concrete-look wallpaper, so neither belt winders nor visible control switches should disrupt the overall aesthetic," says the homeowner. Thus, SELVE radio drives were the first choice for retrofitting, as was a portable, multifunctional remote control that automatically moves the shades according to individual preferences.
SE Pro-RC for Quiet Operation
Seven new SE Pro-RC drives were installed in the ground floor area during the renovation, and the end positions were programmed within just a few minutes. "The functions of the premium drive immediately convinced us, as the longevity of the roller shutter system is very important to us," says the homeowner. Maximum protection is preprogrammed with the SE Pro, whether in recognizing and bypassing obstacles, through the adaptive overload protection, or the anti-freeze function. Another plus, according to the Altena resident: "The drives are extremely quiet; they are barely audible inside or outside the house."
The initial installation and configuration of the commeo Multi Send also went smoothly and effortlessly. As the central control unit, the remote offers diverse automation options, assisting with various automatic commands. The Multi Send automatically operates the shades in the kitchen and dining/living area based on the residents' daily routines. For instance, in the evening, the roller shutters close according to the sunset time. In addition to centralized control, three separate groups were created, including one specifically for the patio door shades. "In addition to comfort and aesthetics, enhanced burglary protection was crucial for us when retrofitting the roller shutter system," says Andrea Sellmann. "We live in a rural area, and our garden is not easily visible, so having automatically operating roller shutters on the ground floor windows as an additional barrier is extremely sensible." Automation ensures that the roller shutters are always closed once it gets dark—regardless of whether the residents are home.
Multifunctional with Radio Control
The couple has complete control of the system with the commeo Multi Send in one compact device. For manual operation, two commeo Wall Sends are also used in the kitchen and dining/living area. The homeowners devised a clever solution here: the switches are hidden, not mounted on the walls but inside a kitchen cabinet or drawer. With the up and down buttons, the respective shades can be operated discreetly.
The multifunctionality of commeo is fully utilized in Altena: whether central control of all shades, individual schedules for different groups, or the manual control of individual shutters—every wish of the residents has been implemented. Should further rooms in the house be renovated and retrofitted with radio controls, the easily expandable system can grow as needed. The commeo system has no limits. It can always be supplemented with additional components, such as the new SELVE Home Server 2, allowing for the control of roller shutters and other SmartHome products via an app.
